The Ecclesiastical Parish of Beverley
St Mary's Church Estate
Registered charity No 232344 ("The Charity")
This charity is an ancient one created by Letter Patent of Queen Elizabeth
under the Great Seal dated 3rd February 1585 whereby her Majesty gave
certain lands and properties to the Mayor, Governor and Burgesses of Beverley
in trust for charitable purposes for the benefit of St Mary's Church,
Beverley.
By a Chancery Decree of King Charles dated 27th March 1634 (to redress
mismanagement and breaches of trust by the said Mayor, Governors and Burgesses
of Beverley) it was decreed and ordered that the churchwardens of St Mary's
Beverley and their successors be appointed Trustees of the charity in
place of the said Mayor, Governor and Burgesses of Beverley and that such
churchwardens be put in possession of the trust property then subsisting
under the said Letter Patents of Queen Elizabeth.
