The Beverley Imp - looking down on the entrance to the Priest's Rooms

A smiling and attractive imp, supporting a pillar on the left hand of the doorway to the staircase, has welcomed visitors to these rooms for 500 years.

Above the two chapels of St Michael and Holy Trinity is an upper storey, the original use of which is uncertain. It may have been the treasury or library of the Church, or lodging or study for the Priest.

Early in the nineteenth century the first Sunday School in Beverley was held here.

In these rooms are preserved various relics of the Church. One of the most interesting is a portion of the old Corporation pew recording the fall of the tower in a carved inscription.

Access to these rooms is by prior arrangement only.
