Lewis Organ

The original organ of 1869, the work of Forster and Andrews of Hull, was enlarged and rebuilt by Lewis of London in 1907. Since then partial rebuilds and renewals have taken place, most notably in 1957. result of further work during the 1990s an electronic control system now links the four manual console with the traditional wind organ of some 6,000 pipes which fills the North Transept. Modern efficient blowers have also been installed.

Music plays an important part in the worship of St Mary's. There is a tradition of choral music sung by the robed choir, and there are regular organ recitals.

In the year 2004, female singers were introduced.
