The market Cross in Saturday Market

The Market Cross with St Mary's Church in the background This handsome Georgian market cross was built in 1711 - 1714. It was designed by Theophilus Shelton, an architect from Wakefield. The coat of arms shown displayed includes the crest of the borough and those of Sir Charles Hotham and Sir Michael Warton, the town's Member of Parliament who contributed to the cost of the construction.
