Newbegin

Plaque - describing the meaning of the name Newbegin

Newbigin Bar was rebuilt in 1409-10, repaired in 1643. Nowadays, Newbegin is a small street entering Beverley from the Westwood Pastures (an area of common ground administered by a band of Beverley-born pasture masters).

This plaque is about 200 yards to the west of the point at which Newbegin joins Lairgate. To get a better idea of its location relative to St Mary's, consult the 'Where is Beverley' section of this publication.
