The restored Dominican Friary

This Friary building now serves as a Youth Hostel - part of the YHA organisation.

The plaque reads:-

"This gateway is of early 16th century date and formed part of the enclosure wall of the Dominican Friary founded in the 13th century and suppressed in 1539. The gate way was moved bodily from the other side of Eastgate in 1964 to ensure permanent preservation."
